I'm wanting to remove the previous owners decals from the door of my kenworth without ruining the paint around the decal. What's the best way to go about this decals appear to be vinyl?
Use a heat gun and warm them up and then peel carefully by hand...you probably will have some glue left...sometimes a little WD40 and a cloth and it will come off fairly easy without damaging the paint.
Tea tree oil will help get the old adhesive off. Dab it on. Let it soak. Should rub off with a rough rag or you can scrape it off with a plastic scraper.
Last ones I did the vinyl came off with the heat gun the adhesive stayed, used 3m adhesive remover, let it soak then rubbed with a rag, another application what was stubborn I used a single edge razor blade it came right off.
Take some good polishing compound to the panel, I assume door panels, and that will blend it in a little better, then coat it with some wax. The idea is to get the faded paint to match closer to what the decals protected.
