Has anyone tried the rock guards that macdon offers for the 974 flexdraper. I wonder if they work good, and I also would be curious to know if the bean saver option would also keep the rocks out. The rocks have beaten the feeder drum on our 2577 up pretty good and I would like to stop this problem from happening. Any advise would be appreciated

I had them on a FD70, they kept the odd rock out, but in short peas when you were running the reel right on the knife
it pushed most of the rocks in anyway.
It fed like crap in those condtions, the rock dam is now in the scrap iron pile.

However, if you have a taller crop I can see where it would work good if you don't need the reel on the knife.

We put the bean saver on. Don't think it's worth the money. I put enough stones through to have serious doubts that it helps any with that.

I think I might pass on these 2 options. It sounds like I will just do a better job of tilting the knife up in more troublesome areas.
