My rotary level quit, and I want to upgrade to one which can do slopes. Will be for grading doing drainage, and hopefully for installing drainage tile with a mounted receiver (lights/arrows, not machine control).

How do you set the slope, do you need to calculate the degrees in both axis and program it, or can you use the reciever and remote to find the slope from two points?

Is there any reason why I can't aim a single slope laser the right direction and make it work?

Some are listed as automatic in the X axis, and manual in the Y axis, does that mean you can find the slope with the receiver in one axis, but must calculate or trial and error the slope in the other axis?

Any brands to specifically avoid?
