I noticed in R72 parts book a cover kit for the separator grate - part # 71373509. It's 2 pieces of what looks like cage material that fit on top of the grate. Anyone ever use these? For what crops? My interest comes from trying to improve straw flow, but it looks like theses covers would nullify the usefulness of the grate, essentially making it more like the bottom of a P1 cage. Not sure if that is good or bad.

I think what your talking about goes in the concave. When I got my 52 it didn't have any, and when I ran wheat, I had a lot of heads in the bin. This year I put two of them in, and it has drastically cut down on un threashed heads.

We had barley loss in middle 90's witha machine and had as many as 8 reverse bars in. We found these cover were available in Ausralia and put the in with no reverse bars. Boom our problem gone. Of course since then we have a lot if things that have changed. Appears as though the grate material can roll the crop mat preventing complete separation. Longer cylinder bars, higher wire separator grates, and sweeps have all helped prevent this possible problem
