I have a new 40 ft Macdon FD75 with double knife drive. At first start up for the day the sickle will not start, belts move, but sickle moves slightly and stalls. I reverse it several times(Lexion 740) and sickle reverses just fine. Sickle is free. Takes about 6-8 tries and then sickle finally takes off. I kind of hear oil flow sound and motors take off. After the 1st start, always restarts fine any time I reengage header. Oil level is fine. Is this the nature of them? Any ideas?

Ours does it to if you hit it with the combine reved up. Seems the pump cavitates and looses the prime. Never does it if you engauge it at an idle first.

I think FD75 has standard knife reverser?
When it is reversed quite a bit there will be a delay in starting accompanied by a hydraulic oil cavatating sound.
That does not explain why your knife wouldn’t start stroking right away though.

I wonder if your filters are needed to be changed if the oil is a bit too thick in the morning until it warms the oil up but it doesn't explain why it would still reverse though
