We have duals on our 72 and we are considering trading up to a newer machine. We think we want duals but there are a lot of 77's out there with singles. What our some opinions on pros and cons of duals versus singles? Duals are more stable I would think. Biggest concern would mud. We would have RWA and we run a 35 foot 9250 header.

Had a s77 singles did not like it. Always felt like it was going to tip over. Now we have 620 duals I guess the only down side is they get quite wide. If you lands flat it wouldn't be a issue. Up here there is only a hand full of newer combines on singles doesn't matter what color.

Have a friend thats a custom harvester. He swares back when he had 75's, one with 900's and one with duals, the one with 900's ran circles around the one with duals several times. He now has 900's on all three of his 78's which I have run for him some and we went through alot of mud last year in Oklahoma that I thought for sure I would get stuck in. I have duals on my combines because I like them for row crops, not alot of mud here though. If i had to worry about mud I would probably take his advice and get 900's. (He also gets Michelin 900's, has ran them side by against firestones and the Michelins are much better in mud.)

My experince is just the oposite! My R76 with duals would run circles around the 75 with singles. If singles would work like duals in mud, I would go with singles, just didn't work for me. Just show's you, every one's world is different.

Did your R75 have 900s or 30.5s? I think there would be a huge difference between the two. I have 620 duals on front and it's good in wet stuff but only 580 Michelins on back and the back will go down with full hopper. I should add this is with pick up header, combine has better balance or less weight on back tires with flex head.

I see you are from s. ill. I will tell you about mud next week if I can cut wheat, had about 8 inches of rain this week. my s78 has 620 duals on it you can come and see for yourself if you like. had duals on my r75 never really had it in bad mud, all our combines before that had singles, I like the duals in the hills seems to be easier on the header if you have small gullys to cross, my concern with the duals is will they ball up and become one big slick tire?

Lost cause, in 09 we had bad mud in the fall in a lot of places. We duals on the 72 then and no RWA. We went through a lot of mud and never got stuck, cut ruts from one end of the field to the other but the duals never balled up. We have 18.4-42 Firestones and they clean themselves very well. Lugs were clear of mud when they came around top side. We have RWA now on it and not had mud since 09 to speak off. We will cut wheat hopefully this coming week if the rain stops and we most likely will be in mud. We've had plenty of water here as well. That was a big concern of mine on the singles, balling up and not being as stable as the duals on slopes and turning around the ends.

If you have singles and want duals I know of a place where you can get the Michelin 620x38 tires and wheels at a reasonable price if they still have some anyway as they work well everywhere but too flexible on steep hills (>40%) so were taken off a few S77 combines.
