Hi everyone. I'm a young custom operator. I have some customers asking me to look into forage chopping. I know very little about SP units. What kind of production rate should I expect (MT per Hour avg.) from a good used small SPFH, like a NH FX30, in alfalfa hay and corn? I am trying to come up with a formula to use for my business plan for this.
Right now I am thinking $100,000.00 for a good used SP sourced from the used Equip paper and $1/HP hour plus fuel so a FX30 would be $385.00 plus fuel. $75.00 per hour plus fuel for haul trucks. Farmer supplies packer/ blower/bagger unit.

I could also ask the simple question, how many cows/ tonnes of feed/ acres chopped justify a small SPFH and support equip/operators?

Any thoughts are appreciated

In my area that would be HIGH! The highest here is $400/cutter head hour. I charge $200 an hour but the cost per ton between the two of us works out to be about the same or cheaper in my favor. I have a JD 6710 that has 340hp. The other is a new Claas 9??

I run a 6850 Deere. will average 90ton a hour wheat and 110ton a hour corn

In haylage I average about 85 ton per cutter head hour. That depends on how heavy the windrows are raked because I won't pound my machine across a rough field or expect the trucks to. In corn there again it is dependent upon the quality of the corn and field conditions. That being said in 65% moisture good corn I'm at about 95-100 ton. I run the processor very tight to make sure the grain is crushed. We had a lot of very poor yielding corn this year so the average may have been more like 60 ton per hour.

here in Germany the Price is with Krone Big x 650 about 130€/h + fuel
and in Corn about 250€/h + fuel ( normally we make a price per Hektar at corn)
