What can a person spray on barley or wheat that is under seeded to a 70% alfalfa, 20% timothy and 10% brome mix? Lots of thistle and volunteer canola. Probably missed the window this year, barley is just starting to head. Does it pay to spray the following year before the weeds get to big in spring? Or just make a weedy first cut and hope for better 2nd cut?

I recently sprayed some Pardner on oats underseeded to alfalfa, timothy and orchard grass. All of which are on the label, as well as barley and wheat. 2 to 6 trifoliate alfalfa only on the label. Canola is not on the label, but it turned it yellow and it seems to have quit growing. Doesn't do anything to the thistle or hemp nettle.
Some of the upper leaves of the Alfalfa did turn yellow, but they grew out of it quite fast.
Have never worried about the weeds in underseeded hay before, the hay always out competes them by the second year, but there was just too much canola in this one, thanks mostly to a hail storm last year.
