I was using my Steiger Pt 225 to run anhydrous today.

I was in 13th gear - about 6.3 MPH.

The first 100 acres was fine, but then I got into some soft dirt.

I wasn't stuck at all, but the cultivator pulled into the ground a bit. The tractor started slowing down, and then just stopped moving. The engine didn't rev up, the tires didn't spin.

I wasn't stuck.

The trans pressure light and buzzer came on.

I put in the clutch and lifted the cultivator.

I released the clutch and the tractor very slowly moved forward and slowly gained speed until it was back to 6.2 MPH.

I put the cultivator in the ground and kept going.

It did this two more times.

Trans fluid level is fine.

I dropped into 12th gear and finished off the field without this issue happening again.

When I start out in a high gear, there is a bit of a rattle or chatter until the tractor is up to speed - then it's fine.

Is this tractor going to need a clutch, or is it just out of adjustment?

I will be crawling under it tomorrow morning to pull off the inspection cover....

Thanks for any thoughts/opinions...

It took 6 turns on the adjusting ring to get it back to spec.

There was a thin film of sludge inside the inspection cover consisting of some oil and dirt.

Assuming that the rear main seal must be leaking a touch....or is that normal?

Always seem to be slight trace of oil, trans seal can leak there too but if the rear mains goes you will lose a clutch quick and damage the flywheel as well with slippage , which matches your first post
