I have been running a set of Marlins along with the progressive rock trap beater from Precision farm parts in a 1688 ( with a specialty rotor) for two years, and I really like it. This fall I have the 1688 running along with an 04 2388 with the AFX. We have only done 800 acers so far this year and nothing in real tuff conditions, but so far the machines just run side by side.

I don't know the brand but I had St. John Welding, St. John, KS put on a aftermarket AFX head for my 1990 model 1680. It really made a difference in the performance of the combine even with standard rotor. It has worked well for me in wheat, corn and now milo. The front bolted to an impeller arm the back to the rotor. Very simple and considerably less expensive than the Lowen. They hard faced the leading edge and it should last a long time. You and contact them at www.stjohnwelding.com.
