Hello, I am new to the sts combines having just purchased a 9650sts last fall. I have run 7720T II's for years great combines just thought it was time to upgrade a few years. My crops are wheat, soybeans, peas, and corn. Question I have is , I have read other posts on here that 3 oem Deere small wire concaves are less than ideal most of the time in wheat. The combine came with the round bar concaves and smooth threshing elements, both are out now and not going back in. I bought a set of oem serrated threshing elements and a set of large wire concaves for my beans, peas, and corn, was wondering if I should run one narrow spaced loewen hectical in the front with small wire on the other two or if the hectical is aggressive enough that I could run a hectical in the front and leave the large wire in the mid and rear and run a few cover plates, prob on 5 where the return dumps back in. Just trying to save some $

Good day. The combination i use is as follows front one large wire, then the two rear concaves are all small wire. This does seem to increase capacity slightly with out overlaoding the cleaning shoe to much. Losses seem to be acceptable aslong as the speed is not too high. hope this helps

Amen to the extra narrows. We have not run a cover plate since we went to the PFP concaves. We run 2 extra narrows, 2 narrows and a JD small wire in rear, sometimes pulling wires for more separation. If you cover the concaves you are asking for rotor loss, as you have no separation in covered area.

We also do not use any cover plates my understanding of cover plates was for use in hard to stituations. By changing 1 concave to a large wire we reduced losses to acceptable levels but two overlaoded the sieves and looses where on the cleaning shoe. Rotor speed should aslo help would look at together with a reduced ground speed to try and find the sweet spot.

Ag solider , you use a large wire on the front one and small wire on center and rear? Just want to make sure I got that correct. Thought maybe too much unthreshed wheat would fall through if large wire was first?

JD9770 , four extra narrow precision farm parts concaves , one john deere wide wire . wheat, flax, canola, barley. no cover plates anywhere, just finished the third year with this setup and cant think of any reason to change it. running 14-18 concave clearance in wheat, 35 0r more in canola.
