Does anyone run round bar concaves in wheat on their STS machine? We have a corn combine and aren't satisfied with our results in wheat with those concaves. We might get small wire concaves to switch out to in wheat and milo. In the meantime, I was just wondering if there is any tricks to getting round bar to work in small grains with any attachments. We currently run two concave inserts on the first two rows and the next three we have closure strips. No matter what settings on the combine (cylinder, concave gap, sieve, fan, etc.) we cannot get the white caps out of the sample. Anyone with any suggestions?

No separator grate inserts. What do they do?

they keep tha material inside the rotor longer, we have a customer with 3 9760's, and all they run are roundbar concaves with separator grate inserts and they are plum happy

but if you are getting white caps, the job isn't getting done in the concave area, maybe try running your feed acc on low

John Deere makes inserts for round bar concaves that make them more suitable for small grains. Try part # BH84308. That is a full set of concave inserts.

The small wire concaves do a crappy job of leaving white caps even with inserts. If you get other concaves look into some Xtra fine concaves from an aftermarket company such as pf parts.

Ditch the round bar concaves, we have a few customers running them and the sample looks like crap if you ask me. You might need some small wire filler plates depending on wheat variety, but the round bars with inserts do not perform like a small wire.
