I believe we run a 22' strong box on a tandem. Hauling wheat, you can't legally load it. Barley I don't think so either. (But I do know it'll hold 700 bushels) Sunflowers, pack them in there!! Check out your weights for sure!! If you are going to have extra box on there that you can't legally load, shorten it, or add a tag axle... unless like most farmers you don't mind being overweight lol

22 ft is nice, but make sure the overhang does not cause an issue with it fully raised to dump into hoppers on the augers you may use, my uncle has some 24 ft boxes on 3 trucks and the issue arises when elevated and there is only 16- 20 inches .

Even with a 20ft box you are exceeding your GVW with wheat and canola, unless you have heavy axles.

We have 20,000 lb fronts and 46,000 lb rears with a 19' x 8.5' 64'' and when filled up with wheat we are around 30,000 kgs.

no I wont be legal and it will turn longer in a tight yard I was just wondering if theres benefits to having a 22ft. I wont be filling it more than 600 bus I don't want to break the truck. The truck is a ih 350 hp alliso auto.

The only benefit I can think of is the extra capacity or if you are unloading on the go, a longer box to work with.

We regularly hauled 600-650+ with our 22' Strong Box and that is on a Chevy C70 with a 427 and a 5+2. Doesn't get used like that anymore due to us now having semis on the farm.

Sounds to me that for you are wanting to do, you wouldn't necessarily "need" a 22'.

We had a 24 foot VMM box on a GM with a screaming jimmy. It would get loaded up at harvest and as a kid it was awe inspiring to watch that thing scream to make some of those hills at about 8 mph. I think if it was stuffed you could get about 900 of wheat on it. Obviously way overweight though. In the day it did have an advantage of being able to haul quite a few cattle compared to a 3 ton or stock trailers of that time. Heck you could haul a dozen horses easily. As well, if you wanted to haul bales you could get quite a good jag on as well. A large box would have some advantages in that respect but for solely grain I doubt it.

You don't have to load it right up... Once you know your weights it's nice to make a couple heaps or whatever without worrying about dumping grain on the ground. It works great for super Bs, you only move three times for most loads. This unit you'd only have to move once. And you still have extra capacity for the light stuff.

Just make sure you have good clearances and such.

My thoughts...
