our old well dried up so had to drill a new one- water is pretty good other than it has tannins in it - wife takes white clothes to neighbours to wash because they get discoloured- the water is soft& doesn’t really taste bad- was wondering what others have done to get rid of the tannins

Would a reverse osmosis unit work? Our water is quite different, its hard and has a lot of iron in it. We have RO units in the house and a conditioner in the well house. We found regardless of make or type of water conditioner we end up replacing them every 3-4 years. The RO units are good so long as you change the filters every year. The conditioners that seem to last the longest come from the companies that take a water sample.

How deep is your well, sounds like a shallow well problem, does it get better if you use more water?

It’s 270’ deep- doesn’t seem to change- we’ve been using it about 12 weeks now

We had the same problem, had to put in a softener and two filters, fixed the problem, went through Vimridge Manufacturing in Regina, you will have to do a bunch of tests done so they can customize the filter to fit the problem

We went with Walkers Water System 6 months ago. Have whole house RO and has been the best thing we did. Had to drill a new well last fall and it was no better than our old well. Lots of iron and ecoli. Been here for 21 years and are finally drinking our water. Should have done it years ago.

I’d definitely look into the whole house RO. Lotsa water scammers out there, try and find reputable business cause that 25 year warranty doesn’t mean anything when they close up shop in 2 years, I’ve experienced That one.

If it’s just tannins a floc system like the one that company in tisdale sells would work well and would cost considerably less. Use way less water as well.
We have a walker whole house RO and do work great but RO DOUBLES! your water usage, is pretty energy intensive and the upkeep adds up. A membrane is 500-800$ alone.
