Looking for some help setting up a Topcon X20 system that we just purchased second-hand.

I can't get the mapping to work.

The DGPS indicator at the top of the screen should flash with a blue Topcon icon, but it doesn't. The DGPS info window shows that I have plenty of satellites and good HDOP.

See attached photo.

One point worth mentioning - the system came with the receiver mounted on a bracket which the PS4 was also mounted to, and connected to the main loom with a short loom about 250mm long. It was not practical for me to mount the PS4 on the roof of the tractor (9280 Versatile) so I cut the loom and soldered in a new section of cable to extend it. This enabled me to fit a magnet to the receiver and mount it on the roof, and mount the PS4 on the floor of the cabin. The piece of cable I used to extend it with, is just regular 7 core trailer cable. I am confident of my soldered connections. I realise that the Topcon loom was shielded cable, it had tinfoil under the outer layer of insulation, and that my 7 core trailer cable is not shielded.

I thought that if the lack of shielding was going to be a problem, then it wouldn't be showing satellites, HDOP, altitude, direction, etc, but I really don't know.

If the home made loom is a problem, then I will buy a Topcon one if such a thing exists. If one is not available, then I will have to try to mount the PS4 to the roof somehow, but I really don't want to have to do that. I don't want to buy a new loom either if my home made extension is not a problem.

So, long story short -

Is it a fault in the system?

Is it just a wrong setting somewhere?

Or is it caused by my home made loom extension?

It's not getting the differential signal, are you Omnistar or RTK.
I have no idea. I am new to this.

We haven't got any subscriptions, so it would be whatever the free satellite signal is. Unless the previous owner got it set up for something better and it is still set up for that. The bloke we bought it from never used it, he removed it from a tractor that he got second hand.

There are 4 different settings in the PS4 setup, sub-metre, RTK, Autonomous, and something else that I can't remember. I have tried them all but it is still the same. I would have thought that sub-metre should work with free to air signal.

I know that RTK stands for Real Time Kinetics and is a corrected signal but I don't know much more than that. I have no idea what Autonomous means.

If you select Autonomous you should get a position and be able a coverage map. You may have to exit the run screen then go back into it , to reset the change. Touch the tractor icon while moving to paint a track.

Today I tried Autonomous, Sub-metre, RTK, HP, and couldn't get any of them to work.

Then it started working for no logical reason. But within about 1 minute it stopped again.

I think I will have to get a tech to check it out.

Thanks for the suggestions.
