Looking for some help setting up a Topcon X20 system that we just purchased second-hand.
I can't get the mapping to work.
The DGPS indicator at the top of the screen should flash with a blue Topcon icon, but it doesn't. The DGPS info window shows that I have plenty of satellites and good HDOP.
See attached photo.
One point worth mentioning - the system came with the receiver mounted on a bracket which the PS4 was also mounted to, and connected to the main loom with a short loom about 250mm long. It was not practical for me to mount the PS4 on the roof of the tractor (9280 Versatile) so I cut the loom and soldered in a new section of cable to extend it. This enabled me to fit a magnet to the receiver and mount it on the roof, and mount the PS4 on the floor of the cabin. The piece of cable I used to extend it with, is just regular 7 core trailer cable. I am confident of my soldered connections. I realise that the Topcon loom was shielded cable, it had tinfoil under the outer layer of insulation, and that my 7 core trailer cable is not shielded.
I thought that if the lack of shielding was going to be a problem, then it wouldn't be showing satellites, HDOP, altitude, direction, etc, but I really don't know.
If the home made loom is a problem, then I will buy a Topcon one if such a thing exists. If one is not available, then I will have to try to mount the PS4 to the roof somehow, but I really don't want to have to do that. I don't want to buy a new loom either if my home made extension is not a problem.
So, long story short -
Is it a fault in the system?
Is it just a wrong setting somewhere?
Or is it caused by my home made loom extension?
I can't get the mapping to work.
