This is the first rotary I have owned and had trouble setting machine especially in canola, couldn't stop grain from going over sieves and chopper. Rotors and accelertors are ok. I was wondering why people say to remove the cage sweeps.

rotor speed 700-800. fan 3-4. bottom sieve almost closed. top 3/8.concave 3/4. acc rollers must be good shape keep combine full 15 turbo boost. will show rotor loss in tough conds. make sure double belt on rs is not slipping or speed of fan and shoe will drop. cage sweep sometimes plugs new ones dont have.

cage sweep can work OK. make sure the alarm and torque limiter are well maintained. If the alarm goes off, deal with it ASAP. (deal with it means stop and clear the blockage or whatever else is causing the alarm to go off. ignoring the alarm or hoping it clears itself is asking for grief)
Canola can be hard on the sweep because of the size and nature of some of the stalks - just the right size to poke through the holes in the cage and tougher than willow trees.
Proper use of cage covers can help to keep things moving. (But is covering half of the cage with steel really any different than removing the sweep and letting things build up with straw and chaff.)
