Swathing will help take any green out of the barley which the maltsters don't like. But we have had success doing both ways just depends on how even the maturity of the crop is. There might be some losses to wind damage if you leave it stand for straight cutting.
Upcoming barley harvest
We are not too far away from the upcoming barley harvest. Just wondering what is typically better, straight cutting it or swathing? I have never combined barley before. I sure hope it makes malting because if it doesn't I likely won't make any money this year. Thanks
