Has anyone hard surfaced there knive beds of the cutterhead

I haven't done it myself but have seen the drum hard faced just underneath the knife however be careful because it will imbalance the drum.

I have hard faced the knife beds on Deere/Claas cutter heads. on a Deere you need to make sure you keep a square edge where the knife clamps to the bed. if you get a rounded edge feed will get between knife and bed and will work the knife loose. I have a local engine shop balance the drum after the hard face. I was thinking about making some angles that clamped between knife and bed and went about half way down the front to the drum.
