Demoed a 9660 (same machine, probably a little less hp) and it wouldn't keep up with our TR98. So a CR960 is probably going to be comparable or a little better as JMF said. But go to a 970 and you will be pleasantly surprised! The larger rotors make such a difference when running through tough stuff.

Don't worry about classes, the CR960 is a bloody great machine, but if the price for a CR970 is not that far away from the 960, i would grab the bigger one.

BUT......Andy you are right, in Australia the CR970 is classified as a class 8

lots of people have different opinions, obviously.... we run a 9650sts, and our neighbour runs a 2003 CR970, he was helping us out one night in wheat and I was doing laps around him.... he said that the combine was banging a storm up, ours was perfect.... never really liked New Holland

mix,I ran Deere's for 25 years switched to the CR's in 2003. I would never trade my CR for a sts. I also know a guy that had a sts last year to combine corn, he decided to get rid of the sts when he could not get his corn to come out of the bin, because of all the fines.

I'm in Sk too and you see guys that have green won't switch even if they were a piece of junk when brand new. They've had demoes of other colours that make their green machines look terrible but they won't switch and have a neighbour that's the same way with red. Brand loyalty shouldn't mean much if you want what works the best. But I also know when some large guys contemplate a switch Deere will do anything to prevent it. And then there are the guys that haven't tried anything different so don't know any different.

Helped our nieghbor (who has a 580 Cat) combine not very dry flax for 2 days now, even with almost 100 HP more (I have a CR960) He wasnt running away from me. But I guess that happens when you are limited with what the header will cut and you have the same header.
we could go till it stopped cutting which was around 8 but the JD's in the area had to quit as soon as the sun went down. the feed accelerater would wrap.
