How do they look? Mine are SLOW, but we have had good rains, and they are finally starting to lengthen out. They seemed to emerge slow, and then kind of sit there for a couple weeks not growing. Is this typical? Never grew 'em before. Waiting for the legendary huge biomass to happen...

Put a 20 acre test plot in.. They looked the best out of everything sown come late April, frost and drought never seen to touch them like it did the other crops..

Used pursuit on them and they look surprising good for the low moisture we have had, last week had a ton of blister Beatles in them, and they have been flowering around the two to three weeks so far, plant stand is ok and about a foot tall

Never grown them before so no very little what's good or bad about them

I'm also a first timer about a foot tall or over and starting to flower. Im still waiting for the 6 ft tall plants though haha. Looks like I'm starting to get some chocolate spot so im not sure when to spray or if I should spray. Will be a learning experience that's for sure only put 80 acres in and hoping for at least 70 b/acre under irrigation

I think modern varieties don't get to be 6 foot tall. Most of ours in previous years are 3 feet at most. Often shorter. Fabas don't seem to grow as evenly as other crops. The heights of the plants are all over the place.

First time trying faba's so I really don't know what to expect, but here's a few observations.
They grow verrrrry slowly. I planted them with the intent to spray glyphosate/authority pre emergence. So I checked the field regularly, digging up some seeds trying to gauge germination and emergence as closely as possibly. When they started to germinate but before emergence I sprayed.......and still didn't see anything break ground for a week!

They handle snow and a canola destroying frost like it was nothing.

I sprayed Odyssey Ultra just over two weeks ago. Seems like it put a bit of a hurt on the beans but not much to the weeds for at least a week. The weeds are dying now but is that normal to see the Faba's set back by the herbicide?
They also handle soggy soils fairly well. I would say similar to what I have seen with soybeans. As long as they are not completely submerged for too long, they survive.
I'm seeing, what I think is chocolate spot, on some of the leaves. Is there any fungicides that touch that?

Mine have grown 4 inches in about three days since I looked last, all of a sudden. So now there is a fair few that are 8 and 10 inches high. But yeah, there are some that are 3 and 4 inches high too. Seem like they are uneven for whatever reason. I am giving them a shot of basagran tomorrow, because I had a fairly heavy infestation of volunteer cereal I wanted to make sure I would kill, so I went with an assure then the basagran split app.

I do think with the moisture we got and now some heat they are going to givver. It looks like they are sort of unleashing and lengthening finally.

I also noticed they are really gearing up with lots of good, pink nodules. Last time I looked, I hardly saw any. Away we go???

Can't say I have ever noticed the plants sick from herbicide, but I only have ever used Viper and Basagran on fabas. I know that Basagran will really make dry beans go yellow for a few days, but I haven't noticed that kind of thing on the fabas.

I'm sure they'll recover and do fine.

Fabas seem to be okay even with some fungus infections. In fact under irrigation we have never sprayed any fungicide on fabas for the last couple of years. But if there is some disease you don't want to incubate it for other crops. Maybe headline or priaxor would help control the chocolate spot?

In bloom our field smells kind of like tea mixed with flowers. You can smell the tannins. This variety is a high-tannin variety that ends up being used as a fall cover crop in the US.

Is that vetch or lentil in the pic? Did you plant it on purpose?

We've found Odyssey to be hard on faba's especially if you spray them a little late, really knocks yield (our experience anyway). I believe you want to use a sclerotenia type of fungicide for chocolate spot like Lance...not 100% sure though. We've never sprayed fungicide on them and are being told by researchers that there is no yield loss due to chocolate spot???? And I really don't want to prolong the lifespan of faba's, hard enough to get off before the first frost in the fall. Handle frost like a champ in the spring and awful in the fall if the seed isn't dried down. Ours are very slow this year, not what we've noticed in the past but we've had good rains through May/June the last few years that we've grown them but this year very little till the last week of so, seem like they might be starting to grow now.

Sprayed mine early with pursuit, assure not much damage I had thought to crop.. Then resprayed a few weeks latter with pursuit, arrow and it might of hurt flower some.. Seen some black flowers after doing it.. But was told it would shoot out new ones and carry on

The faba looked very good for the conditions we had this spring, compared to all the other crops I've grown.. Hope they turn out
