We seem to be replacing dust caps on the rear wheels of our 03-2388 too often. We have put 3-4 on each wheel over the past couple of years. We finally duct taped over the whole hub on one last year and that has kept it on.

Today, it started again. While picking up swaths on rough ground, we had to tap it back into place 4 or 5 times. We did the duct tape thing again, but on this one you can feel the cap has pretty much come off underneath.

Any ideas as to the cause?

Re: What the heck causes the dust caps to come off

My old 1480 did exactly the same thing....duct taped mine on also. My theory is the viberation of road travel (I would think you have lugged rear tires) works the cap loose and then you lose it in the field. The Case-IH engineers were a little short on material when they desgined the hub and cap......no reason the cap lip couldn't have been longer!

That era of machine had a problem with the caps falling off.Could fit them and loctite them on and they would still come off. We have a strap fitted over the cap and secured by the wheel nuts. The latest machines have a new bolt on cap fitted.
