I clipped off all the plastic tines on our Series III flex head last Fall. Is the paddle tine something I should consider for soybeans or are they not worth the price? The series III has deep feather sheets and I really am wondering if this will help with proper feeding.

Also is it possible to replace the two piece feather sheets with one sheet?

Thank You

I have heard of people using strips of old baler or conveyor belting staggered across the reel bats to sweep in beans. Cut it 12" wide and long enough to hang below the new fingers. The belting can't get in the sickle and will sweep the head clean with every rotation. Have thought about trying it next year on our 315 head. Sounds good, it remains to be seen if it works as advertised. If it does it's a cheap way to solve the problem, we have loads of old belting laying around, handy stuff sometimes. Good luck.

Barry sweeps are available from your dealer. They use two strips of metal and six carriage bolts per sweep to attach them to three fingers. They do keep the feed going however stones go in much quicker as well. I prefer to keep the cutter bar in like new condition and out of the dirt as soil does dull the guards extremely fast.

Thanks for the replies -

Our head originally came with belting on it. I thought it knocked down more beans then it pushed in. But it was a good year!

I run a piece of electrical conduit (poly and flexible) behind the sickle. Seems to keep the beans in and the rocks out but feeding is still a problem sometimes.

I really like the one piece feather sheets pj. Farmers are the best engineers around!
