The auger was reversed(starting with 1999 production, I believe) so that the grain coming off of it would be going more towards the middle of the cleaning system/seive area. When it turned the same direction as all the rest of the augers, the grain coming off of that auger would be aimed towards the LH side of the seives. Have seen some guys install the reverse auger on older combines when they felt that the cleaning system was overloaded on the LH side.
