I need a windrower with grain header and hay header. who likes/dislikes theirs. I have grain/canola/flax but also need to cut some of this grain very green/heavy for silage(but performance in those heavy green low spots will help) other silage crops include millet and clover. the hay header is for alfalfabrome/greenfeed. looking for realworld research and development.

Seems like all the custom silagers use MacDon headers here. Quite a few 972's. Nothing else seems to able to cut green stemed cereals or hay like the macdon can. From what I've been told the honey bee's are a very good ripe crop header but go pfft. in silage. Also the 972's get used cutting hay crops for silage if there isn't any need for crimping. My neighbour runs 21' and lays double swaths for the chopper.

The newer massey and hestons we use cut silage like its a cake walk and have plenty of engine power for hills and such, We also cut hay with a massey 16 ft hay head attachment and not one complaint. I think the 30 ft swath head we have for it is tha agco 5200. Also when we were looking at new SP the massey was 25 000 cheaper than the macdon at the time.
