My custom cutters run 77‘s 78‘s and one 88 and they have had a couple small problems right out of the gate but once they get a couple bugs out they sure run good and steady, I run old red but I have run my combines along side many colours and as far as I am concerned the problems I have seen with all of them out of the gate I didn't think Gleaner had any more or less probs than anything else.

I do think that in wheat they are the true winners in having the cleanest samples and the most in the hopper.

Only one thing that caught my attention was on the 77s was that the variable speed feeder scheves are finiky, can't press and hold speed switch or it will pop a snap ring and blow the seal, but was updated on the 87 and 88.

So there is a few things to learn with them but they get 2 thumbs up from me

We have been running rotary gleaners since 1981 and have had good luck with all of them from the N7, R7, R72,R75 and now S77. We traded to a S78 for this season so we will see how it goes. We get a nice clean sample with our gleaners and there are very simple to set. Simple to work on.

I have been very pleased with my 2013 - S77.
I would rate factory ass'y and dealer PDI - as great!!!

Have had only two stops in field, in two seasons- 1st season - within 1/2 hour of using pick-up header, had a squeaking noise coming from header. Took 5 minutes to find table auger was touching strip on back of header - nut was loose on fore/aft adjustment, took a couple minutes to adjust!
2nd season -(not a Gleaner issue) chain on plastic shield on pto shaft on Honey-Bee header came loose and whacked the power cable for headsight. Was only 1/4 mile from yard, so quick wire slice and a couple cable ties and we were going.

Have had two other issues that did not stop us. 1st - reel was slow to engage and auto reel did not function properly - replaced valve cartridge after first season and it is good now.
2nd - would get about 6 communication warnings, at same time, about once a day, would just hit OK to them all and kept going, never stopped. Dealer posted pics of all grounds on there web site and had me check mine. Has been fine ever since!

In the off season dealer tech did following
After first season - replaced harness in steering column, a kit in seat to secure wires and new bumpers, change in mounting of AC comp, checked feeder slip clutch for missing springs
After second season - replaced bolts in unloading auger in grain tank, installed heat shields on exhaust manifold and re tightened brake drums

not many positives.....I have a couple neighbors that have S77's (I think) One likes it very good and bought another, he has nothing but good things to say! The other one is having a very hard time with his. header doesn't feed right...dealer was there almost everyday for a long time.

Does the guy with the feeding problem run a macdon? Our cutters fought with the feeder chain jumping an it was due to the panels behind the auger were too short, there is now a new set of them you can get from macdon.

My 78 ran almost flawlessly last year with only minor things, one bearing on combine and one on header, no downtime with either. It seem's with all the *****ing going on, I might have the only one that's not a lemon. I traded for a new 88 and hope it's just as good as the 78 was.

I like the gleaners. the 75 I had treated me great, the dealer I traded with leased it out and then sold it last fall and it is my understanding it ran 5000 acres with out a break down. the s78 I have has had some issues and I think that agco will get it lined out but it is a very slow process,

5700 acres and no down time

The S77 did 5700 acres in 2 years with no down time. I do have my combine run through the dealership every year for inspection and updates. I have come to realize with AGCO and I am sure with other brands that a lot of the updates and improvements are released in the summer prior to harvest. My salesman has a reminder on his computer that on July 31 to make sure all the updates are completed. I have read other articles of people getting mad and loosing sleep all winter long that issues are not resolved yet. I do not loose my temper or even worry about it until a week before I harvest. My dealer has never let me down to this point so I keep running the best combine for my operation. While combining last fall 3 surrounding neighbors running a new Case, a new Deere and a 1 year old Lexion were all broke down with there dealers working on them at the same time. It is too bad I could not take a panoramic picture showing this. So if it has moving parts or wires it will break down it boils down to the luck of the draw, hopefully I am on the good side.

I like your dealer, I don't think my dealer will do a update unless I complain about something isn't working quite right and factory offers a fix for it. I have yet got a call saying this or that needs updating.

Still have narrow feed house to control the crop weather heavy, light, or on the hillsides and Gleaner has a bunch that will run with deeper throats this year. Eating 40' feet of windrowed and irrigated Canola with ease already this past fall with the deepened throat. Not to mention 40' of straight cut heavy crops without slipping clutch all season. His report is the S78 pulls extremely strong as compaired to the S77 he traded. Still feed concave exactly the way the header put it to the feeder. This is just like a conventional combine to this point and is presented to rotor in this narrow ribbon making it resistant to heavy, light, or hillside operations. Still after the concave the rotary action begins to take over and separate all the way around the cage. Still use the accelerator rolls to accelerate the cleaning process and make it resistant to the hillside operations. That is just a few positives that Gleaner STILL has. It is unfortunate that with some of the hardware changes that took place in 2014 some guys got caught with a failure. Also some hickups with the tier4F engine in place for this year caused a bit of trouble for a few. Hydraulic cartridge O-rings blowing was also unfortunate but I'm sure it will be addressed in the update package that most every machine gets after the first year production of new model. One thing I know is that the machines have an excellent way of threshing, separating, and cleaning the grain very simply. Can't wait for this fall when we get the 4200's back into Canola with the shocks stabilizing auger movement.
