I have a John Deere 7210 with a power quad and left hand reverser. I changed the left hand reverser control and swapped the coils on the forward and reverse solenoids on the bottom of the transmission. It still does the same thing. Has anybody else experienced this? Thanks in advance for any advice.

This tractor has the left hand reverser, so it doesn't have the mechanical linkage to the transmission. There are three solenoids on the bottom of the transmission that control forward and reverse. The coils are good, but I think one of the solenoids is stuck.

Do you know how to reads trouble codes from the dash? That will help.
I had same problem as Billville2024 with my 7410 PQ, left hand reverser. A spring broke and got into the shuttle valve. Had reverse but no forward. Then after 4 or 5 tries didn't have reverse either. Had several error codes but main ones were computer seeing "neutral" and "not neutral" warnings for the shift valve. Those basicaly told the reverser control to stop working because the idiot in the seat keeps trying to break something. LOL
Mechanic drained oil and dropped the bottom valve assembly body. Replaced the spring(s) that cost about $20 and the valve body gasket that was over $100. Good as new.
Before starting repair the mechanic said this was the most likely problem. It can happen on tractors with mechanical shift but operator (idiot in seat) ignores the harder shifting and the broken spring pieces get further in and score both the valve and housing. Lot more costly to repair.
I think he said the springs were for a cooling valve?? I bought the 7410 used and it made a hydraulic noise at start up. I figured it was the pump coming up tp pressure. After the repair it no longer made the noise.
Good luck.

I had it on a 7810 tractor, one of the early production years and if using the pto on grain vac it would not move forward till it cooled down, but reverse was fine.

No codes and it took a few years, but a DTAC showed up explaining what it was. Unfortunately it was a while ago and I forget what the fix was, but it was not a stuck valve or electrical, but something that caused low pressure like a check valve or regulator.

Since you've already tried replacing the left-hand reverser control and swapping the coils on the solenoids, here are a few additional steps you might consider:
  1. Check Connections: Ensure that all electrical connections to the solenoids and reverser controls are clean and secure. A loose or corroded connection can cause intermittent issues.
  2. Inspect the Solenoids: While you've swapped the coils, it's also important to verify that the solenoids themselves aren't sticking or malfunctioning. You might need to test them with a multimeter or replace them altogether if they seem faulty.
  3. Hydraulic System Check: If there's a problem with the hydraulic pressure or fluid levels, it might affect the transmission's ability to shift correctly. Check for any signs of leaks or contamination in the hydraulic system.
  4. Controller/ECU Diagnostics: There might be an issue with the electronic control unit managing the transmission and reverser functions. Running diagnostics, if available, or consulting with a technician who can perform this might help pinpoint the issue.
hope this helps
