Bought a 1980 John Deere 8820 Titan from an older gentleman in my area last June. I got it for a song and a dance to do my own wheat as well as neighbors. Right now I'm only doing about 100 acres next year, but intend to obtain more land. I ran it this last year after going through it mechanically and it seemed to do fine, but the shaft speed monitor system did not work at all, no buzzer no nothing. Not only that, but none of the lights on the instrument panel worked, like the parking brake light, hydro oil press, etc. However, the funny thing is the "straw walker plugged" light will come on whenever I turn the key to the "start" position. I pulled the panel off, and found that mice had chewed through some of the wiring. I rewired it and checked the 4A fuse (early model). Still nothing. I'm inclined to believe it is the shaft monitor speed box, but why would it be causing the park brake or hydro pressure lights to not come on?? Has anybody had any similar problems? Is the monitor box a common thing to go out?
