Heater valves turned off?
could also be an expansion valve. Had the dryer on ours come apart and put desiccant through the system

 

Yes heater valve is off. Blows cold then cuts out for a good 3 minutes before it'll cut in again. Sitting idling it'll blow cold when its super hot out start going down the field it quits

 

Saw many times the air gap in the compressor clutch was to wide and the coil cannot pull the clutch in once it all heats up. There are shims on the compressor clutch that can be taken out to reduce the gap, remove the front of the clutch with a puller and they are on the shaft against a step that the front hub goes up against.

 

Did you check if it was low on Freon? Your symptoms sound like the low pressure switch might be shutting down the system.
Freon expands with warmer outdoors temps so it wouldn’t trip the switch as easy. The compressor also pulls a lot less out of the low pressure side at idle which would leave enough pressure to not trip the switch.

Not low on freon I've put more in but it doesn't seem to pull very much. The less that's in the better it seems to work.

 

likely your expansion valve. I had similar issue on 9880. also replace receiver dryer at same time. blows ice cold now, all the time.

This can also cause expansion valve freeze up

 

Could be a bad pressure switch....thinks the oressure is too high or low and kicks out until it stabilizes.

Or could be overcharged and kicking out on high presssure.

 

This is exactly what was discovered after approx 20 hours by technitions

 

Without having a set of gauges on it and seeing what the pressures are doing we all are just guessing

 

Ended up being full of air drained it and recharged
