We have taken the pro700 out of our combine and installed in our JD 8130 to run accuguide. We will be using the tractor for tillage and drilling soybeans with our 20 ft john deere 750 drill. What is the best way to map soybean varieties as we plant? Can the variety tracking software be installed so that we can overlay the maps when we combine next fall? We have a JD Computertrak 350 monitor on the drill. The CIH dealer says that we can buy an implement switch so the Pro700 will know when the drill is down.

You could do the implement switch or tap on the screen each time you put it in the ground for mapping. I went to a similar thing on the pro 700's and they went over something, but i forge the exact name for it, that may work for your situation. Best would be to get ahold of a good precision farming guy at your dealer if you have one.

You will not run variety tracking software while planting. The Pro 700 variety tracking software is installed while harvesting, to recognize the varieties you recorded during planting/seeding. In the tractor, you will record your varieties using what are called "Manual Control Channels" in the Pro 700. Manual Control Channels are a way to record something that you're not actually controlling, and you can use up to 4 Manual Control Channels at any one time (i.e. one channel for seed, one for liquid, one for dry chem, etc).

Yes, you can purchase an implement switch to automatically control data logging, but it's not just as simple as a generic whisker switch. You'll need the switch, plus a module to convert the switch input into a CAN message, and then harnessing to get that into the tractor. If you think this is too much trouble or $$$, you can always control the mapping manually by touching the screen.

Do I have the software already for these manual control channels? I looked around for quite awhile the other day in that monitor and didn't find anything. My experience with this monitor is limited.

The precision ag specialist from the dealership is working on this as well.

Wow, this sounds way easier to do when using the JD planting software/display compared to the Pro700! Just select the variety and assign it to the rows.
farmerjones - take the 2630, put it in a Magnum and use it to record varieties on a Case IH 1200 planter. That's the equivalent to what the OP is doing. Assigning varieties on the 700 for a piece of red equipment is no harder than doing it on the 2630 for a piece of green equipment. But when you're mixing and matching colors, things become less streamlined with both systems. Especially when it comes to automatically triggering logging.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I have two different guys trying to find a switch and make this work. Honestly though, I'm getting a little frustrated with the reason behind this madness. We will sow about 600ac of soybeans this year, and if I had my way, we would have bought three or four varieties. The problem is that we have about ten varieties from five different companies.

I have a Ag Leader Insight on my planter and a Pro 600 in sprayer and combine and Pro 700 in Quad. I find the Insight much easier to use and it does a awesome job of color coding different varieties. I don't think the Pro can do that. I hate when the pro gets the task full and then creates a new one half way through a field. I like my red equipment, but not sold on Pro monitor.
