Hi there,

We are thinking about buying a 1086 with around 4000 hours. What I would like to know is what kind of problems you guys have experienced with them. The tractor we are looking at is a 1980 and has around 4500 hrs. It seems to be mechanically sound, and cosmetically in good shape.

I have spent many hours on a 1586 that has clocked more than 10,000 hours and aside from the t/a and clutch goin on it. So I would assume that the 1086 is just as sturdy of a tractor, could I be wrong?

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I think you got it T/A and the Clutch.

They do run really good. Start when its cold, -20 F saw my neighbor ether without being plugged in. But he said that 1086 always started good. His T/A was out by the way.

Just make sure you get it cheap- because your going to have repair bills- we always had trouble with the A/C, along with all the others mentioned. I wouldn't give more the $10K for one if it was brand new.

If your looking for a cheap tractor under 12K they are a great buy. Not as bad as others make them out to be. IH sure sold alot of them if they were such big piles. Only weak point I see in them is the low hydraulic flow and the way they shift. The shifting issues can be easily and cheaply fixed. Other than that a decent tractor, and a good tractor for the money. Hard to find something that will run cheaper.
