We’ve had luck tapping shift mechanism on tranny with a hammer while somebody in cab is changing the gear on dial. There’s a spot you can put a wrench on near the trans sight gauge that you can turn a bit to help it into gear too

That’s not limited to CIH.

 

I've tried restarting it a few times now. Even put the charger on high on the batteries while starting to make sure the voltage is right up. Will try starting it in neutral.

 

Not sure it’s the same but we’ve had the wire loom wear through the wires somewhere near or on the front axle on a New Holland CX860. Fixing up the worn through wires fixed the problem.

 

Can’t see any evidence of harness rubbing anywhere. Did pull the servo shift motor and it turns when battery power supplied. There is a gear position indicator/sensor up there as well. According to that the trans was half way between neutral and second. I got it to neutral by turning the big nut under the servo motor that LTO referenced above. Reinstalled motor and still nothing. Beginning to wondering if it’s not that sensor.

 

You might have to crawl under combine and manual put it into gear, we’ve had to do this a couple of times.

 

How did you get it in gear? Then did it work ok after that?

 

It’s been a while since we did this but think we had to take the cage off underneath transmission and either pry or turn to get it back into gear with combine motor off.

 

Too long ago to remember for sure but I had a similar issue that was resolved by changing the shift selector switch in the cab. Had to do this on two 30 series machines and it corrected the problem immediately.

 

Just talked to the dealership and they had a machine in the yard doing the same thing, throwing the same code. They checked back the work order and it was the shift selector sensor on the transmission.

 

Yep it’s the shift sensor, they go out fairly frequently.

 

No way to move if it will not sense the gear it’s in. Even if you lock it into gear manually.

 

Just replaced the shift sensor and let’s go combining!!
