Just wondering what guys experience has been growing this stuff? If you could answer a few questions would be great.

1) How much does seed cost?

2) What herbicide regime and cost?

3) Approx how many days to flower and mature?

4) How much N will it stand?

5) Disease tolerance?

6) Yield % compared to 5440 or 45H29

7) Would ultra early RR like Pioneer 43E03 or DK 73-15 be a better option?

8) Will it qualify for Non GMO?

9) Can it be treated with Lumriderm?

We have lost our ability to grow full season varieties here due to Swede Midge and just wondering if this might be an option. The early planting early flowering concept could potentially get into flowering before midge pressure hits mid to late June?

Hi,

We have grown it before and some of my friends did too after we turned them onto it. If you search om here I posted pics of a crop planted in Saskatoon on July 7th.

1. Seed is around 3 or 4 bucks a pound.

2. Assure or a Clethodim for grasses. Muster Gold or Lontrel for broadleaf e's. Looking at 10 to 25 an acre depending on rates and products.

3.75 days to maturity... 35 or 40 to flower.

4.75 lbs max.... at 90 it lodges badly. It's more N efficient than argentine canola.

5. Same as any other canola.

6. Hard to say. It can do 40 plus seeded in July elevator confirmed yields...

7. Depends on what you need for weed control. We have 43e03 this year and it's a solid variety.

8. Yes. It's also yellow so visually distinguishable.

9. No. But flea battles don't like it because of the hairy eaves and stem.

I need to say, for MY farm and MY weeds. Some guys will not have cleavers etc., and it will work for them better. Tempting to try though, the seed savings would be fairly tremendous. It would also allow me to ensure some ground for winter wheat a bit better. Hard to do that with a limited season and argentine most years.

That's what I think too. Time you throw on edge and an in crop of grass killer and clever or muster. Wow herb cost outweighs the rr option. I guess if you have clean land or maybe silaged it for 20 years then your weed spectrum isn't as bad. However cleavers buckwheat sow thistle pigweed etc makes conventional look expensive.

I have some synergy in this year. Cost was 3.50. Seeded about June 9 which would likely be fairly typical. You wont have much for weeds after a burnoff June 8. So weed control is not the big issue.

The big issue is that June 9 crops suck. Should sow a bit early May to see what it would do.
So my plan is to save a couple totes of this stuff for emergency situations where you have to seed something in June.

In typically drier conditions would earlier seeded polish come close if not outperform argentines varieties? Remember dad planting a bit years ago. Seemed it was a replant thing if the argentine got crusted by a downpour. Seemed if the argentine did 30 the polish ran 25. This was early 90's full tillage 1/3 fallow with 30 lbs 11-51. I think I am going to try a hidden field I have reserved for these things. The flax experiment I'm trying to get over. Really aside from a few cases my canola yield is lucky if it improved 5 bushels since banner rr canola to 73-44. In fact 16 years ago I remember dad getting 45 out of sw arrow on the same ground I have never been able to get again. This is with a better fertility package and weed control package. One year I used rugby op re canola against a pioneer hybrid and there was at best 5 bushels difference. I still use the hybrids though because the potential is there but the risk reward gets murkier as seed cost escalates and conditions outside my control are against a good yield.
What is the best time and way to apply edge? Before my time when it was last used here. Could you mix with avadex for a better kill?

It only got around 70-20-0-20 seedhawk sideband. On a side note one hawk set on B depth and one on D. B emerged better. May consider leaving it on C for all crops. The 6060 has made time lately. I think synergy will go on to ripen quicker though. All canola around here is real touchy about growing in wet ground(it wont emerge actually) Synergy is even a little more touchy. Dont hold your breath for high tech yield trials.(I can just picture it now- Im in the yard replacing a bearing in the auger and the synergy field is harvested by the time I get back. what trials?) I hope to get a general idea. If all that happens is that I am real smiley about paying 12/lb for canola seed then its worth it.
