Air drill TBT versus TBH tank?

Handier to fill and/or jackknife
Cheaper.
More stable on hillsides.
More efficient use of hydraulics and air flow.
8000 pounds of hitch weight so don't need added weight on the tractor.
Couldn't give me a TBH.

Now we still sort of have both, 300/bu Seed on the frame and Fert in extended 5440 TBH that holds 20 ton of fert. I am indifferent on TBH and TBT. Although the TBT does add some nice weight to the tractor.
A friend of mine runs two carts front and rear but he has it setup so one cart does the left side, one does the right, so he can seed with 1/2 width, either side.
However you need two complete set of controls and you have to fill both carts with both products.
Works good though.

i heard of and think that i have seen tbt units in drier conditions have trouble with germination in the tire tracks. anybody have any issues like this? looking at and most likely going to buy a 430 bus tbt and don't want to have issues. thanks

You think a tbt pulls down hill more than a tbh Greg?
I guess if you look at some of 98j's pics.

I agree on the less implement skewing with a tbt.
Your "climbing over the implement" comment reminds me of an incident that took place in the area about 3 seasons ago.
It was a biggest at the time Bourgault drill and cart, 64' I think, pretty full cart, traveling downhill to the headland,
having to U-turn uphill. I bet you can feel whats coming here.
When all the openers lifted out of the ground, the unit pushed the tractor sideways,
jackknifing the hitch against the track (yes, a quadtrak) wrecking one side of the hitch. Tractor OK.
It just points out that as heavy as a quadtrac is some of the equipment pulled now could out weigh it 2 to 2.5 times,
one just can not ignore gravity.

OH, I see what you mean.
While true I don't worry about it, just let Autotrak do it's thing, little miss here, little overlap there, big deal.
Not 98j hills mine you.

One thing I don't think anyone has ever mentioned with a tbt is the extra distance you have to drive
headland to headland due to the increased length.
But the increased distance is likely more than made up for with reduced slip and less rolling resistance (less wheels and wheels running on tractor compacted ground).
Given enough time I can rationalize anything.

You should post those pics Greg, the vultures here are always up for some disaster pics.
