Don is being awful quiet. I think he parked the lexion and has been running a Fendt Ideal he got a good deal on. Wanted that automatic header hookup!

 

Outdoor Farm Show in Woodstock Ontario had both an Ideal 8T and a Lexion 8600 on display. First time I've seen both and wasn't really overly impressed at the Ideal. The design and build look quite complex to me. The Lexion looked more refined and quality/robustness of the build appeared better than the Ideal. Time will tell on the long term product quality of the Ideal but if I was in the market for that size/cost of combine I'd be all over that Lexion. (coming from a Gleaner/Fendt guy).

 

Don since your the only person to say you have one is that the way they are , or was this one not swung all the way out?

Ive seen others that look like they go ahead further than mine, the show unit though must have not been fully extended.
The bigger not as obvious things are the auto auger empty and 1/2 speed top up.

 

What do you mean by auto auger empty? Does it shut off cross augers so you can empty the auger every time? I've wanted that for a while. Half speed top up is cool too.

 

Correct, when you shut unloading off as normal the tank auger(s) instantly shut off but the tank vertical and cart fill auger run another five seconds ish.
Doesn’t matter how much is in the hopper the main auger is empty and if there is anything left in the hopper the main auger goes instantly at discharge end from full stream to empty.

Urgent shutoff for the entire system is holding the auger switch down for over one second.

1/2 speed topping up works well, very convenient.

Emptying a right full hopper sitting is an 80 to 85 second project.

Claas has changed fuel delivery parameters, in spite of the rapid unloading you really can’t tell you are unloading at all by engine load, I think that’s part of what Claas calls Dynamic Power.

 

I can't comprehend or understand that Dynamic Power or whatever they are referring to. So they are saying this new setup has a governor...don't they all? There is no variable speed drive is there, where engine rpm can vary, yet maintain speed on the drives is there?

 

No, engine speed constant same as others although quite low at 1800 rated.

I don’t get it either, supposed to save fuel up to 10% when full power not required. How? Simply the low speed? Gotta be more than that.

Think they have it on the forage harvesters as well. Still don’t get it.

Would that be similar to what I had in our old Freightliner maybe? M11+ Celect. Was rated for 370 horse but would increase to 410 when needed. I imagine the computer would increase fuel available and make a few other changes to increase power without increasing engine speed.

 

I think they are referring to the boost in power for tough spots and unloading on the go. Engine runs at same governed speed but fuel is boosted to maintain the same rpm under higher load conditions.

 

Yes, but how is that any different from how it’s always been done, even before electronic engine controls?

In any case, it does seem to be easy on fuel and for sure in spite rapid unload harvesting is completely unaffected by the power required to unload, first time I could ever say that.

I can guess how they came up with this, when running on Cruise Pilot and unloading is turned on ground speed is slightly reduced to a constant speed, not because of of the power used but if crop conditions vary speed remains constant. Dynamic Power keeps that gap even narrower.

 

I Remember visiting with Jeff gray of Claas in 2013 after my first season with a 2011 760tt. I explained that something was wrong when I would try to unload while at full load it would go to 102 percent,then start to loose rpm. I said my Deere 9860 gained power while unloading ,and Jeff sheepishly said we don’t have that.

It is amazing how much extra power it takes as well to climb a hill especially when you are pushing your machine close to the limit.

 

Swman ,funny you thought I was going to say the grain was coming in faster than it could unload it. I do say that a lot. 13inch filling auger 13 inch unloading auger. Doesn’t make sense in corn.

 

Dynamic power sounds like a fancy way of saying power bulge.

 

Except power bulge took no claim to fuel savings, if it did you wanta believe it would have been mentioned!

 

Guess it doesn't matter how they decide to market it, as long as it is an efficient running machine. That is the $important$ part.

 

Power bulge when engaging unloading auger on Deere (think it was 35HP) was one thing I really missed when going to Lexion. Was told Cat either didn't have capability or would not do a power bulge, which I never understood. MAN engines do have capability. Would be a nice feature to have.


Deere's large diameter auger really took the power to start when full of wet corn. Wonder if the same is true of the new Claas auger when full. I can see that the ability to clean out auger would extend the life of the unloading system
