Does any one know the expected release date of John deere's new forage harvester

I am not to sure if they worry about emissions to much they know what the emission standard is so I don't think they base the machine or its horse power around that. They come up with a design that they think is good and produce a motor for it or put a motor in from another company such as cummins. They have motors that have plenty of power more than a forage harvester ever needs

All this talk of engineering these choppers with even more horsepower could get out of hand. One important thing that they forget about is keeping up with all of that silage at the pit. Our 7950 and 7800 John Deeres can make a long day for the packer, with an adequate amount of trucks. There is only so much room to put the pile and it has to be packed otherwise the customer wont be happy. Adding another packer to the pile is okay as long as there is room.

My grandfather thought that same thing when he had a two row cutter in the 60's. "there is no way we can get more silage through the blower and up that pipe". Any body that thinks we have achieved maximum capacity is forgetting history. I think capacity per machine will probably go down significantly, we just won't have drivers in these smaller "robot" choppers in the future. I hope I live long enough to see it.

Was thinking same, but that changed

Was thinking same, but that changed. Had one big chopper in the field with alfa, everthing was going well, till something broke and the operation was sitting still in the burning sun. If I had two little once, same amout of trucks and packers things would not going so much south. I see it more as a insurance.

We had two 960's and a 900 chopper going at once, something like 20 trucks (can't remember exactly) and 3 packing tractors, 965C, 535HD, 675C it just takes alot of room and communication and you it will work. If you could do it with two bigger choppers instead of three means you have one more person to do another job, and there is lots of other jobs that could be done.

I agree totally with doing more with less! It is getting to be a real challenge to find good quality operators anymore that want to work the hours needed to in harvest. So to get more done faster is key in today's world. Things have come a long way since the days of my grandpa with the Field Queens' and Fox choppers and in some cases dairies and feedlots are still wanting to stuff thousands of tons of feed in little tiny holes. Easy to load the truck, hard to get it dumped!

The John Deere's are maxed at 19km/h in field gear (non-prodrive) anyway. I'm not sure if they can go faster while chopping with prodrive but there's only so fast they can go in pick-up work otherwise the front isn't spinning fast enough to actually pick it up.

Just depends if both machines were actually working at full potential.
