As far as I know you dont need one, you just need to be over 21 with a car/tractor licence. I never needed one, if the machine steers by track such as a cat challenger then one needs a track layers ticket.

You can drive a combine in the U.K at 16 as long as you have a tractor licence. A car licence covers you at 17 I'm sure.

Is that to drive the machine on public roads, or do you need to be licensed to drive in a field too?

as far a s i know you must be 21 to drive a combine on the public roads in the UK.

You need a licence to drive in on public roads.

To drive it in the field you must be at least 13 years old and be supervised.

Wow. Is that law really enforced, or does everyone just skirt around it? I started driving the tractor at 11. Dad rode with me for a round to make sure I had the hang of it, then I was on my own.

11? What took you so long to get started?

We had a little cub cadet that we used to rake hay and clean the cattle pens. I was running that when I was 6. I'm sure a lot of us here started running equipment at a very young age to.

To be totally honest I'm not sure if it is enforced.

I've never heard of anyone being caught.
