We are updating our rigid 30 ft. to a draper platform. We are having trouble with saw fly damage in wheat and having to scrape the ground at times. I'm not afraid to spend the extra for the 2152 but would like to know if it's worth it. Thanks for any help !

This chart may help:
Products / MacDon Industries Ltd. / The Harvesting Specialists.
D50=2142 Basically a 2142 is a stripper
D60=2152 is more featured as well as more options
FD70=2162 is a flex draper

When we had our 40' 2152s, our dealer asked me if we would be shaving the ground with them, I guess it determined how they set-up the adapters, so scraping the ground shouldn't be an issue with these headers. We only used ours for cereals so no experience with short crops with the 2152s.

The 2142 has a lighter duty draper and is only available with a 5 bat pickup reel. The reel is also one piece (no center lift arm), so it can't be set as close to the cutterbar (due to more up/down bounce).

The 2152 is also availble with the 5 bat pickup reel, but the 6 bat reel is worth every penny more. It picks up so much better and feeds into the combine so much smoother on the tough going. I have a FD70 and a 2152 and it is debatable if the FD70 with its 5 bat pickup reel is any better header than the 2152 (D60) with the 6 bat reel. I tell most neighbors to get the D60 with 6 bat reel if your ground is flat, as it will stand up much better over time (ie. less moving parts).

The 2142 is a great header and if you don't need to scratch the ground often it will work well. Make sure you get the hydraulic tilt on the header. This really helps with lodged crop.

Your going to have to tell us what year of 2152 your are looking at. The older ones were 973's which was the rigid version of the 974 FlexDraper. The newer ones are D60's as Don mentioned. Both are great machines, and will cut well on the ground for a rigid header, and have the C cutter bar and a pickup reel better than most out there.

Why didn't Case change the model #'s for the NG MacDon's?
