I'm looking for the best shop air hammer on the market. I currently have a $100 IR don't know the model off hand but it sucks. About all it does is make noise and vibrates my work and when start up you have to beat chisel point against work or it blows air out the front. I need one that has a variable feathered trigger. Most often used for removing bearings off shafts. Price is not really the issue, I just want one that hammers hard and not just vibrates.

I've got a ten year old CP air hammer, have no idea what model it is but it is black and cost me 400 dollars, hammers like crazy and destroys tips easy if you keep the barrel tight. Most of the aluminum silencer broke apart and fell off last year. Like I said the barrel keeps coming loose and it will stop hammering (maybe thats the problem with you IR?) was thinking of loc titing it but I just operate it with two hands, need them anyway to keep it under control ;).

I have used a few different kinds of air hammers over my last three years or so of wrenching, and am a combine tech so I know what you're looking for. In my opinion the Snap-On PH3050A is hands down the best hammer on the market. I have used a IR, a John Deere (whoever makes them) and a Mac and none of them even compare. The Snap-on model does not have a variable trigger, but it does have an easy to use air adjustment knob that makes it easy to turn it down if needed. As with most things that say Snap-on on them, you have to pay a high price to get it but in this case it is deffinently worth it!
