I got my sprayer stuck in the mud tonight, decided to take the tiger, WoW! Using an automatic for that is awesome!
Nice and smooth as it pulled the rope tight and a nice easy touch of the throttle to about 900 rpm and she dug it right out like it wasn't back there!
When I got it stuck the other day I pulled it out with the 865B and the way of applying pulling power at that slow speed is no comparison.

Why do you think Don keeps harping on about Allisons in trucks? There’s nothing like them.

So is the torque converter fully clutch control fully automatic or can you manually lock and unlock it? There is nothing I hate worse than an unlocked TC when I want it to be locked or vice versa. If you can control it manually, that would be the best thing since sliced bread.

There is no clutch pedal in the rig, just a brake pedal.
At about 500-550 rpm the tractor will just barely move under it's own power but barely touch the throttle and its putting pretty good power to the dirt.
Just driving it empty you barely feel it lock up but it locks at about 1700 rpm.
There is nothing set up to control the converter manually but I want to see how it works without messing with it first.

The automatics were certainly a unique idea since nothing has been done like that in a large production scale for 30 years or so. The PTA Panthers were not entirely uncommon either. These days we have 8 speed transmissions in a car and half ton where as a workhorse had 6. A high/low splitter box could be useful if lack of gear selection was an issue. From the Nebraska tests Don linked it seems the Tiger was a little thirsty, i wonder if fuel efficiency played a role in abandoning the automatic.

Looking at 70% on our challenger 865b vs the tiger at 1700 rpm the tiger only comes in at ruffly 2 gal difference witch isn't that much especially if I can get the TC locked at a lower rpm, and at 1700 it likely was not locked up.
I suspect fuel use to be a little higher than the challenger while running the planter but just one season of rent I paid last year on the 500 quad was more than I paid for the tractor. And the best part is its mine! LoL!

The 525's had a 4 speed box so you could get a lot closer to the right speed but for me it looks like 3rd gear will be perfect for planting. I am really excited about stopping with the planter in the ground and taking off again without having to lift up and start over, a side from that will be the VR motor should follow the speed better rather than catching up to the split second gear changes of a power shift

Anyone here ever spend some time in one of these big girls?

I've got some questions about bout the low speed stall and how to properly set the idle. It might be right but man it seems like that engine is barely turning in order to stall out.

Thanks in advance!

Haven't really got to do anything with or to it yet as it's been pretty busy around here to get familiar with it.
Was going to use it the other day and it was 95 degrees outside so I put my a/c gauges on to make sure all was up to par, messed around with a couple things and moved the tractor..... yeah, without taking the gauges off!!
Now it leaks! And same for my gauge hoses!
