We have been adding some liquid fert to our glyphosate to help speed it up a bit when we are dessicating has anybody else done this.

We are using 28-0-0 it seems to give the plants a little growing boost and takes the chemical in faster, its also suppose to help with any hard water issues, does the same as adding ammonium salfate. There have been tests done where they used fert instead of water and chemical still worked fine.

Okay. I've never dealt with hard water from any rural source I've worked with, but have been to places where water is as hard as a rock. Well, almost.

Still, I've never had to mix chems with anything harder than most city tap water, so got to thinking that a good surfactant may help break it down[?].

I would say artificially softened water, but it's really just plain old salt added to it. Can salt interfere with the fert or glyphosate is the big question. It may hurt the plants. I know it makes cats sick.

We started using a product called Choice that addresses both hard water issues as well as pH. For us, the hardness doesn't seem to be a problem as much as the high pH of the water is. I think UAP manufactures or distributes it. Typically, almost one 10 litre jug will bring the pH down on 800 gallons of water. The stuff smells like vinegar, though.
