Quote:98 J,

What sort of crop is this in the photo above? Looks like some sort of grass crop, amybe canary seed?

Cheers,

TC.

Hey TC The crop is club wheat, a sub class of the soft white that is the
predominate wheat grown here in the PNW (Oregon, Washington &
Idaho) It does better for us here in Wasco Co at the higher elevations....the club seen here is above 2000 feet....this variety
is one called Crew; it's a five line cross (notice the red & white chaff
and NO beards. Club is valued for it's LOW protein ( I know this
is back wards to most of you) Quite often it is used to blend with
the more common soft whites to keep the overall protein levels low
for our end use customers.

Here is our neighbors MH2 at work in a different field....this Club is the
latest.....one called Coda.....white chaff & bearded....yields are great....
threshes easy....weighs up real good; Clubs are traditionally a little
light ( you only need 58lbs to make #1 Club wheat) but the Coda
comes in heavy...had some 62lb Coda on ours two years ago.

A little closer look at the Coda.....our 8010 at work in it from 2 years
ago. We plant common headed soft whites ( Stephens, Tubbs, Madsen
OSU 101) at the lower elevations closer to The Dalles and raise Clubs
on the higher elevations south of Dufur, Oregon. We will have about
400 acres of Coda this year.....maybe as much as 700 or 800 next year.

Wow, just found this forum, was looking around, and found MY pictures taken of OUR MH2 Gleaner on here. The pictures were taken by me and my mother, and you can see me sitting in the cab of the harvest truck. GLEANERKID had nothing to do with these photos and must have taken them from a Gleaner Facebook site that I posted them on. Funny how he did not answer to any of your replies how the yields are! Just thought I would set the record straight and I think proper credit should be given to where it's due!
