Summit oat yield

New to growing oats.

Planted 100 acres of summit oats this year.

Broke hayland last year in the fall.

Put down a blend of 45-20-0-10 with the seed. Seeded about 90 lbs per acre.

How do these look for a 'drive by yield estimate' by guys who grow oats?

They were hit with hail about a week and a half ago...

The reason I ask is because of bin space.

I have about 8000 bushels of bin space set aside with another 4000 bushels if needed.

This brings me to another question.

If a bin is advertised as holding '2000 bushels', does this number change depending on the grain?

ie - would it hold 2000 bu of canola and 2000 bu of oats if both filled to the same level?

Why do people complain about hauling oats with their semi? If I can haul say 1100 bushels of canola with it filled to the brim, would it be 1100 bushels of oats when filled to the same level?

Since starting this thread, and after the hail, there are a lot of new green spots showing up in the field.

Now I have variable maturity from ready to swath, all the way down to soft dough (and even earlier).

What would you do?

Wait a bit for the green stuff to ripen up and risk some of the mature seeds drop out?

Or swath now and hope the immature stuff gets blown out the back?

I would really like this field to make milling if at all possible...

Swathed it all yesterday

Very frustrating to watch oats shell out on the cutter bar right beside oats that are grass green.

See how it drys down later

Hoping to still squeak a milling grade out of it...
