Why are P516/P514 heads impossible to find?

I know this was addressed some time ago but I am curious as to why it is still all but impossible to find a P516 or P514 for sale in the United States. To find a pickup head listed by itself just doesn't seem to happen (or the odd one that does is 1,500 miles north of me). Are the pickup heads actually made in Germany and then shipped over and then fitted with the swathmaster or rakeup in Omaha? My other question is why the combine and pickup always sell as a set up in Canada.

I understand the demand for pickup heads has decreased since more and more guys are direct cutting but my Lexion dealer said it was unlikely I could even find a brand new one in the states. Pickup heads are still used extensively around my area of western Nebraska/ northeast Colorado to harvest proso millet, which is why I'm looking for one. It looks very likely I will be adapting one of my Deere heads.

I would imagine that the reason combines up here are almost always sold with a pickup head is because, at least traditionally, almost every farm used one. Around here at least, in the past there was very little straight cutting being done and there was extremely little corn being grown. Every farm needed a pickup head and the few farmers that needed a corn head or a straight cut header bought one but still needed a pickup head also. Actually, around here, I would bet that the vast majority of combines from years gone by have never had the header's removed unless it was required for servicing. Most of the old combines started and ended life having used the same pickup header their whole life. With the breeding going on to make different crops viable in our climate I suspect there may be a day coming when combines start to be sold without headers like in the US.

Macdon makes the new pickup heads for Lexion and will not (cannot?) sell a pickup head that will fit on a Lexion combine. I checked this route out when I was looking for a pickup head. I could buy a Macdon head and then buy all the parts from Lexion to to make it work, but it would cost as much as just buying a new head from Lexion.
I was lucky and found a very nice used P516.

If anyone needs to purchase parts for their Lexion pickup head check with a Westward/Macdon dealer for the part before purchasing from Lexion could save you some money. Last year one part was less then a 1/3 of the cost from Westward.

Combine world in Saskatchewan has three of them a p13 and a couple of precision 14 footers plus they sell new macdon ones as well. Gratton coulee agro parts should have a couple of them as well. Shipping might not be as bad as a person might think I had a cat d4g shipped up here from Kansas a few years ago for five thousand way bigger and way more weight. I also had a head with a 22 foot Sund pickup shipped from North Dakota for 1500 a couple of years ago. You would likely need the different cord for the newer machine . Both places are four to five hundred miles north of the border at least I would think. I maybe worth a phone call or email to both of them.

I second that.
Broke auger drive shaft and was told $800 from westward/macdon, or $2200 from Claas. Same shaft From same place. Parts pricing would be the only reason I would go back to the other yellow, and I have bought quite a few parts for a couple big wide body machines with 1600 hrs. This year

Interesting do you think that converting a four hundred series head to a five or seven hundred series head would be huge dollars? As far as parts pricing goes it is interesting to note when you buy claas filters for the engine oil and fuel filters they
are cat branded and just about double price over purchasing from the cat dealer full retail.
